Fido's Year in Review
January 1, 2021

Happy New Year! As we move into 2021, many people will be looking back on 2020. This year’s review lists may resemble dumpster fires, but there are a few bright spots. Actually, Man’s Best Friend had a pretty good year. A Norwalk, CA vet takes a look back at Fido’s most notable moments below.

Got A Song

In one of the cuter segments of scientific studies, researchers chose an adorable way of sorting out how dogs react to songs. They wrote a Christmas carol just for Fido! The song was recorded at none other than Abbey Road, and features things like squeaky toys and phrases like ‘Walkies?’ You can see the video and watch a few pups reacting to it here .

A Christmas (Dog Story)

As you may have noticed, subscription boxes are now a thing. Fido even has his own version! Signing your pooch up for these may be fun for both of you. It’s always cute watching pups get a box of goodies in the mail every month. This year, Barkbox has put out a limited Home Alone version. (Don’t worry, it’s not booby trapped.)

Won An Award

You may not have heard of the Hambone Awards. These doggie awards aren’t quite as prestigious as the Oscars or Emmys. The Hambone is always given to a pup that has had a rather extraordinary experience or injury. This year’s Hambone for Most Unusual Claim went to Chopper, a bulldog who got so excited to see a friend outside that she jumped through a glass window, hurting her paws in the meantime. Chopper is doing well now, and has joined the ranks of previous Hambone recipients like Harley, the pug who pooped out a whopping 100 rocks.

Helped The Humans

As you know, when the coronavirus pandemic hit, lockdowns and quarantines initiated huge and sudden lifestyle changes for many people. Working and learning from home was a big change for many folks, and is particularly hard on extroverts. Fido was more than happy to step up and help his human buddies through! In one study, which was done by the University of York and the University of Lincoln, over 90 per cent of respondents said their pet helped them cope emotionally.
