Helping Your Pet Celebrate International Lazy Day
August 1, 2020

August 10 th is a big day for many of our furry patients, even if they can’t be bothered to celebrate. It’s International Lazy Day! Our animal companions are very good at helping us relax and unwind. They’re also great at reminding us that it’s important to just slow down sometimes. Here, a Norwalk, CA veterinarian lists some ways to celebrate this special day … by doing as little as possible!

Bed

If there’s one thing that’s required for a proper lazy day, it’s a comfy spot. Fluffy and Fido love snuggling up with us on our chairs and sofas! However, they do benefit from having some things they don’t have to share. Buy or make your pet a comfy new bed. (Tip: orthopedic beds are great for older pets and large dogs.)

Binge-Watching

One great thing about streaming services is that we can watch (or rewatch) our favorite shows at any time. Revisit an old favorite, or try out a popular new show that you haven’t seen yet. This is a great time to check out a cute animal movie. Of course, some of our furry friends also enjoy watching TV. You can even find entire channels made just for Fluffy and Fido. Give it a try!

Treats

No lazy day is truly complete without yummy snacks. Order delivery or cook something delicious for yourself. Get something special for your pet, too! Plain, cooked meat, fish, or chicken without the skin, bones, or fat is fine for both dogs and cats. Fluffy may also enjoy some canned tuna in water. As for Fido, well, it is a special occasion, so go ahead and give your canine buddy a bit of bacon or sausage. Just don’t go overboard with these fatty treats!

Phone Games

Gaming is a pretty popular lazy day activity. Did you know that you can download games for Fluffy to play on your phone or tablet? Some kitties really enjoy ‘catching’ digital fish, spiders, or bubbles. Give it a try! Just put the phone or tablet on your floor, so your furball can’t knock it over. Of course, you probably don’t want to let your dog play on your phone. Get Fido an automated laser pointer instead.
